DEFINITIONS:
Food Program:
-Consists of Mon thru Thursday evening sit down meats
-Four people will be assigned per shift: One Main Cook, a Sous Chef and 2 for cleanup
We each rotate through each position. This means you will be in one of these
positions approximately once a week, depending on the number of other residents
in the house. Your dietary needs will be met in all meals provided.
Withholds:
An un-communicated viewpoint that you have an emotional charge attached to.
Withholds effect your perception and communication.
Withholds Practice:
This is a privileged communication process, the goal is not to be communicating with
the receiver, rather the goal is to reduce the emotional charge you have so you can, at
another time and place, communicate more effectively.
A withhold practice looks like :
Two people sitting across from each other, one is the person "giving" (speaking) their withhold and the other person is the one "receiving" (listening) the withhold. The person receiving the withhold, says "tell me something you withheld" the person giving the withhold speaks a specific withhold the person receiving the withhold, simply says "thank you", and again prompts "tell me something you withheld."
Effect Shift: (see below)
House Meeting:
This is a meeting in which all residents attend and have the opportunity to communicate and discuss any agenda items, questions, concerns, announcements, etc. that are arising as a result of living together. We open this meeting with the practice of Withholds, and close the meeting with *acknowledgments.
Community Night:
A bi-monthly evening where we all come together and play communication games or host some other fun time.
Acknowledgments:
In this practice we take time to specifically acknowledge each other.
Occasional extra expenses:
Each person may be asked occasionally to contribute extra for expenses that come up as a community,
(ie, new vacuum, washer, etc.)
Effect Shift:
Our house is the container of this community and its care reflects the level of love and compassion that we place on each other and all things. The degree of consciousness shown in caring for our house is a direct reflection of how we see
and care for each other. Effect is your opportunity each week to demonstrate directly how you see and care for yourself and others, and how you would like others to care for you.
Effect is not about "house cleaning," though we are cleaning the common areas, (Kitchen, Front Room and TV room).
The truth of the matter is, if we "just" wanted to clean the house we would simply hire a housekeeper, however, we would miss out on the opportunity for connection by putting attention on each other, with the effect shift being the "vehicle" in which we experience this opportunity.
Effect Shift Checklist:
(Please note: As residents we are responsible, every day, for cleaning up after ourselves in all common areas... it is not the responsibility of the person on effect.)
~Pick up and wash dishes in kitchen, front room and TV room
~Dry and put away all that is in the dish drainer
~Clear and clean counter tops
~Wipe down stove top
~Sweep kitchen floor
~Pick up any personal items in living room and TV room and put away or find a place out of the way to store
~Wipe down dining table
~Wipe down place mats, or if really dirty change out with clean place mats
~Wipe down coffee table
~Straighten couch cushions in living room and TV room
~Vacuum entire common room areas (dining table area, living room,TV room, hall way and postage room)
~Take out the trash and recydables and place in their proper container-
Effect Shift Responsibilities:
-To have an assigned day, once a week to do Effect
-To complete your Effect Shift by noon, unless otherwise agreed
-If absent from the house and cannot do your Effect Shift, it is your responsibility to arrange for it to be done via exchanging your day with another or paying to have it done at an agreeed upon rate per shift. (The usual rate is $20 per hour for a full shift, so $10 for half a shift)
~If there are enough people living with us and we can "double up" on effect days, it is YOUR responsibility to stay in communication with your effect partner on how you want to divide up the shift and to cover for each other should that be needed
