Presently.....
We are living in a beautiful, large established community house in Brisbane, CA. We are folks who are respectful of ourselves, others and the world around us. The tone of our living situation feels like a healthy, positive and joyful environment. We are mainly in our 30's and 40's, but have had many age ranges from a newborn (in the house) to people in their 70's, though our present population is not that, we are open to wisdom from all ages. We have common and strong values that bring us together: personal development, fun, meditation, mindful eating and strong communication skills, as well as a child friendly, positive environment. We believe in living in possibility and in creating magic and empowerment in the world around us.
There is only one young child at this time and we would love to have another family or two in the house, so our children can play together and learn from each other, and others. We are interested in raising our child with the sense of a village and connection with nature.
Currently, our house is undergoing an exciting and pioneering transformation. Recently, the owner of our house has decided to sell her property. This has brought many changes. Some residents are moving on, but a core group of us wanted to stay together and recreate ourselves anew. With our strong sense of purpose and common values and experience in community living, we initially began to scour our beautiful Brisbane community for another rental house and talk to our friends and family and we even began to look for a buyer. Or a philanthropist who would be interested in buying the house and putting it in a trust. Along the way we discovered a few things: if we rented a house again, we may find ourselves in the same situation, having to move again when/if the owner wanted to sell again. And we came across a process that many communities in our situation have gone through....it is called a community land trust. This means there exists a nonprofit organization that is designed specifically to provide communities with buying power. Our vision to to have our community be a community house forever, benefiting families and folks in the bay area now and into the future and empowering them to be able to live collectively and safely in an area whose economy has skyrocketed and is not expected to slow down much in the future.

Over 9 years ago I was introduced to community living by my dear friend Laura. And as life would have it, I immediately moved in. It seemed like such a logical way to live! I stayed and experienced much growth, albeit at times I seriously resisted, but the community was there, handling things with grace, inviting me to look deeper, and most importantly, to look beyond myself. I am graced with a supportive and loving partner, Rodolfo, who was willing to expand beyond himself as well and enjoy the immense benefits we have received and been able to impart by raising our son in an intentional community setting.
Currently, I am a happy and committed mother and partner as well as a Spiritual Mentor and business woman. It is such a joy to devote all my resources to the well-being of my family and community.
I also enjoy yoga, meditation, dance, chanting, energy work, nature awareness, and hiking.

Welcome to The Brisbane House!
What an honor to have you invest your time to learn about our community house. I came to the Brisbane Community House through the encouragement of my partner, Shanta Marie. Although I come from a large family, I was unfamiliar with community living outside my biological family. But now that I have experienced community living for over 4 years, I can honestly say that it is the closest to family one can get.
I truly believe that the world is at a pivotal point in human history and community living is a wonderful way to reconnect with one another in profound and powerful ways. An aspect I delight in each time I see my son running around and interacting with housemates, is the level of connection he is developing with various personalities from the male and female perspective, besides mom and dad.
My three passions are the following, in no particular order: my family (biological and community), writing and meditation. Thank you for being interested in community living. May your heart and mind be open to the possibility of a world where humanity embraces community in all areas of life.

Hello. I was born in this house and have been enjoying growing up with so many aunties and uncles!
I really enjoy being acknowledged and spending time playing different games. I am very good at speaking with adults and listening to stories. I am learning to read and really enjoying my co-op preschool, Silverspot, where I play with my friends several times a week.
Im also into animals and hoping to get a small dog this year. I also like the long hikes my dad takes me on.

Hi, I'm Michael! I'm an avid investigator of natural healing, an author of transformative books and essays, and Co-Director of the Healing Collective. For as long as I have been a resident of the Brisbane Community House, I have gotten a great deal from it and felt the inspiration to learn how to give as much as I receive here with my community.
In my research life, I conducted a study of 200 people in the course of earning my master's thesis, which revealed attitude factors, thoughts, and specific lifestyle behaviors that effect health and wellness. The results, along with ten years as a passionate natural health facilitator, have provided the background for writing my new novel, Sweet Healing: A Whole Health Journey, that embodies the path of people I've seen who have found fulfillment in their well-being. I speak and do book signings locally, and also travel to meet with groups on this subject.
I am certified for practice as a Spiritual Nutrition Counselor with individuals and organizations seeking wellness, and am a certified Yoga Teacher. I lived for over five years in a community and healthy spiritual retreat center called the Tree of Life. I'm also a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I have been creatively involved in four award-winning documentary films, and was the Associate Producer for the documentary "Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days" and Director-Writer of "Ecoparque." I also co-founded of Soma Naturals, an organic juice, cleansing, and food company.
